Safeguarding Update

Posted on February 11th, 2018 by admin

At a recent Executive Committee meeting good governance, training and safeguarding was discussed. Gilwell continue to update their publications and expect good practice from all.

We have three pocket guidance cards which all adult members should have copies of. These are designed so you can keep them with you when you are doing Scout activities.

Our “Young People First” card (also known as the YELLOW CARD) sets out a code of behavior for all adults in Scouting and highlights our Safeguarding Policy. This is due to be updated next month and enough has been ordered for every leader. We have a PURPLE CARD that provides support for safe Scouting and guidance in the procedures for dealing with an emergency. Finally we have a GREEN CARD setting out a Scouting and Alcohol check list for adults.

PLEASE ensure you follow the advice and guidance contained in these cards as we have an obligation to our young people to ensure we deliver Scouting in a safe manner without risk to health so far as is reasonably practical. ALSO, all leaders need to ensure they have completed their “Getting Started” training (modules 1,2 and 3). Reminders and links will be sent out this week by our training team. PLEASE give this your URGENT attention, we can offer other training options if you cannot complete on-line. As ISLAND COMMISSIONER I must insist that relevant training is carried out and up to date.

There are NO OPTIONS here.

Yours in Scouting,
Guy Thompson – Island Commissioner
